Valentine’s Day Ball 2025: Helping Veterans, Honoring Heroes

Valentine's Day Gala

The second annual Valentine’s Day Ball, hosted by the Marine Corps League at the Big Bear Lake Elks Lodge, was a night dedicated to supporting veterans in the Big Bear Valley. Organized by Rich Collier and the Marine Corps League, the event raised funds to provide scholarships, fishing programs, job assistance, help with VA benefits applications, and a variety of other essential resources for local veterans. This year’s event also included a special tribute to first responders for their dedication—especially in response to the recent Line Fire.

A Tribute to Our First Responders

As part of the evening’s program, the Marine Corps League honored Chief Willis of the Big Bear Fire Department, with Battalion Chief Brian Parham accepting the award on his behalf, and Captain Craig Kelly of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station. The awards recognized their “Heroic and Outstanding Dedicated Service to the Big Bear Valley.” In addition, Congressman Jay Obernolte’s office presented awards to both the Big Bear Fire Department and the Big Bear Sheriff’s Department, further acknowledging their commitment to protecting the community.

A Community United for Veterans

The Big Bear Rotary Club played an essential role in supporting the event, continuing its legacy of service and philanthropy. As a key sponsor of the Valentine’s Day Ball, the Rotary Club helped organize the evening and hosted a silent auction and raffle to raise additional funds for local veterans. Helen Walsh contributed greatly to the Rotary’s efforts, while Annette Karnes played a crucial role in managing the raffle. The generosity of attendees and donors ensures that vital programs for veterans in the Big Bear Valley will continue to thrive.

Thank You to All Who Made This Possible

The Valentine’s Day Ball was first and foremost a fundraiser to support veterans in the Big Bear Valley, ensuring that they have access to scholarships, job opportunities, recreational programs, and assistance with VA benefits. The evening also provided an opportunity to recognize and thank our local first responders for their dedication to the community. Thanks to the efforts of the Marine Corps League, the Rotary Club, the Elks Lodge, and all the volunteers and attendees, the event was a tremendous success. The overwhelming support and generosity of the community will continue to make a lasting impact in the lives of our local veterans.
